One of the challenges I set myself for 2019 was to start to learn how to use film making more to share my process and how I create an art-filled life that works for me.
This work I made for a 7 day project in early Autumn. I filmed the entire process – collecting terracotta pebbles in the river, how I prepared them, exposing them in the sun at the lake, and finishing with collage and silver leaf.
I pushed myself not only to create the work in such a short time, but film it too on my iPhone. As I’m new to film-making, I’ve been binge watching tutorials on both how to film and how to edit. I’d saved on my computer a film course by Xanthe Berkeley that I bought in 2015 and never once looked at. So yes, learning how to make films has been a long time coming! Although a lot of the tech is now out of date it was still really helpful and Xanthe has great, clear instructions. I also used this guy on YouTube. It’s a steep learning curve but I’m enjoying it very much. I hope to share more little documentary style films over time, as well as the sketchbook tours on IGTV
